RealPlayer is unable to authenticate to proxy servers for streaming media but many sites will still be accessible with RealPlayer following the introduction of Mandatory Proxy Authentication (MPA).
By default RealPlayer transmits streaming media on port 554 which is not subject to Mandatory Proxy Authentication. Sites which use this, default, port for streaming media will therefore remain accessible for the Monash community.
Sites outside of the Monash domain which use the http protocol (port 80) to stream media will not accessible following the introduction of MPA.
The following settings will enable Real Player to load web-sites. These settings will allow users to view content available from a site but streaming media files will NOT be accessible if streamed on port 80.
- Start RealPlayer
- Click on View and select Preferences
- Select the "Proxies" tab
- Place a tick in the "Use PNA proxy" box and enter raproxy.cc.monash.edu.au on port 1090
- Under the "HTTP Options" heading Select the "Use my web browser's HTTP proxy" option.
