Monash Notes

January, 2004

SSH (Secure SHell) is similar to telnet (a program which allows users to access a remote computer), but with the advantage of secure communications over relatively unsecure channels.

As part of complying with the IT Security framework that requires that authentication credentials (username and password) are protected when being sent across the network - Telnet will be turned off on ITS Servers at the end of February.

Users who previously used telnet will now need to use SSH.
