Storage Solutions offered by Novell

The Faculty's use of Novell offers users many features in relation to data storage. These include:

Data backup
All files which are kept on Novell server stored in two locations and are backed up each night.

Easily expandable storage space
Extra storage space can be purchased at any time and added to a v:\ drives current storage quota.

Multi platform access (Windows, OSX, Linux, Web)
Novell shares can be accessed from Windows XP computers, OSX Apples, Linux/Unix computers, and computers running Internet Explorer and Firefox browsers.

Offsite access
Data stored on Novell shares can be accessed by any computer attached to the internet anywhere via its web browser via Netstorage. Current supported browsers are Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox.

Quick recovery of recently deleted files
Using the salvage tool you can recover individual files which you have recently delete (in most cases).

Recovery of edited files
As files are backed up each night if you save over a file the previous version can be recovered from the previous nights' backup.

Secure storage
Folders can be created on v:\ drive and the users who have access to this folder can be specified and restricted.

Syncing data for mobile users
Using iFolder you can have a folder on your Windows XP computer sync to a server and then sync to another PC. The files within the iFolder can only be accessed by the user who owns the iFolder. This solution is not yet available for OSX.
