Undergraduate Programs
YEARS 1 AND 2
—Bachelor of Medicine/ Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS)
The Monash University Department of Rural and Indigenous Health (MUDRIH) works closely with the rural clinical schools to coordinate the existing Year 1 and 2 rural programs. The academic staff at MUDRIH are developing the Year 1 and 2 curriculum to make these programs interdisciplinary and will assist in implementing these curriculum changes through the rural clinical schools. Students undertaking these rural programs are immersed in a rural environment/culture for three weeks during the first two years of the MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine/ Bachelor of Surgery) course. During this time they are given the opportunity to apply the knowledge gleaned from lectures/textbooks and experience first hand what it’s like to live and work in a rural community.

MUDRIH staff teach the following rural health units:
Year 3:

Year 4 (often completed concurrently with the Graduate Nurse Year Programme):

Each of the units builds student capacity to understand, work effectively and to acquire the clinical skills necessary in rural and remote communities.
Unit information can be found at the Monash University Handbook.
