Monash University Department of Rural and Indigenous Health

PhD Scholars
Travel and Accommodation Bursary 2010

We encourage new PhD students interested in the areas of parental mental illness and early intervention and prevention when working with children and families, to undertake research in this area with the Department of Rural and Indigenous Health’s (MUDRIH) Mental Health Unit. This is a great opportunity to undertake research with nationally recognised researchers in the area of parental mental illness, Dr. Darryl Maybery and Dr. Andrea Reupert as supervisors.

The area of parental mental illness has been under-researched, particularly in the area of early intervention and prevention when working with children and families. Dr. Darryl Maybery, Dr. Andrea Reupert and the Mental Health research group at Moe has a strong research record within this field (see http://www.quantifyingconnections.com/COPMIpage.htm for more information).

The Mental Health Unit at MUDRIH (School of Rural Health) are offering $4000 travel and accommodation support to two (full time) PhD scholars per annum commencing in 2010. The purpose of the Bursary is to enable scholars from across Australia to regularly attend MUDRIH over the life of their candidature. The bursary will fund travel to and from MUDRIH from anywhere in Australia up to a value of $2000. In addition, accommodation (up to 4 weeks per year) to the value of $2000 per year will be provided on site (Ollerton Avenue apartments) in Moe. Part time options may be available.

To be eligible for the bursary you must be interested in this research area and meet the Monash University Higher Degree entry requirements (please see information at Monash Research Graduate School for eligibility details). Please note that all PhD places at Monash are HECS free and new scholars can enrol at any time. If you are interested please contact Dr. Maybery for more information.

Supervision

PhD supervision will be provided by Associate Professor Darryl Maybery and/or Dr. Andrea Reupert. Both are experienced supervisors and accredited by Monash University. If necessary other supervision within MUDRIH, the School and the greater Monash University maybe coopted for supervision support based on their areas of research expertise.
