Ms Fiona McKay
BSc, MPH
PhD Student
Profile
Fiona McKay is a PhD student at the Primary Care Research Unit School of Primary Health Care. Her PhD is focused on Australia’s policy and practice toward HIV positive refugees in an attempt to determine if the practices of resettlement could better serve positive refugees. The research compares the policies and practices of Australia, with those of New Zealand, Denmark and Sweden with the goal of identifying best practice recommendations suitable in the Australian context. Fiona is also interested in the media representations of HIV positive refugees in the context of the criminalisation of HIV transmission and exposure.
Fiona has experience in public health teaching at both Deakin University and Latrobe University for undergraduate Nursing, Physiotherapy, and Health Sciences students.
