Profile

Asuntha Karunaratne is a Research Assistant at Primary Care Research Unit, Monash University. She has experience in qualitative and quantitative research methods and is currently working as a Research Coordinator on a study looking at the experiences of individuals living with obesity (social and ethical aspects). Her previous areas of research include the social and cultural dimensions of the use of complementary and alternative medicine, and lived experiences of obesity. She has presented the obesity research findings internationally at the Health Services Research Conference (New Zealand) and Narrative Matters Conference (Canada). Her PhD work (recently submitted) was in the field of medical research ethics looking at the process of consent in research involving human subjects, conducted at the Centre for Ethics in Medicine and Society, Alfred Hospital. She has presented her PhD study findings at the annual Intensive Research Ethics Course for ethics committee members in Australia.

Asuntha also has experience in ethics teaching at Monash University for undergraduate Medical students, Radiography, and Health Sciences students.
