Role of the Committee
Monash University has a number of Social Inclusion committees that report through the Faculty Social Inclusion Coordinating committee to the University Council, and through other reporting lines to the Vice-Chancellor and the Vice-Chancellor’s Group. Faculties have established Social Inclusion Committees (formerly Equity and Diversity Committees) to provide two-way channels of communication between staff and students of the faculty, the Dean, Faculty Board, and the relevant University committees.
The Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences committee has developed its own terms of reference. In general, the role of the committee is to initiate and monitor the progress, both in qualitative and quantitative terms, to promote:
- Equal opportunity for women in the workplace
- Cultural and religious diversity initiatives
- Support for students from disadvantaged backgrounds
- Work, life and family initiatives
- Employment and career development for Indigenous Australians
- Support for staff and students with a disability
- Improved access to faculty courses for under-represented equity groups
- Awareness of rights and responsibilities identified by relevant anti-discrimination legislation.
