The Department of Physiotherapy was established within the School of Primary Health Care in 2007.
The School of Primary Health Care incorporates several departments, centres, units, and course streams over several campuses. The Department of Physiotherapy is located at the Peninsula campus in Frankston, an outer suburb within the greater Melbourne metropolitan area in Victoria.
Despite its comparative youth the department is already intensely research-active. Staff are engaged in a variety of research activities and are committed to research-informed teaching.
The department has more than 20 PhD students and more than 30 honours students. It is also developing postgraduate coursework degrees for physiotherapy and other health professionals.
The department culture is one of embracing opportunities to develop staff attributes and skills. Staff are committed to exemplary professional behaviour, collaboration and support.
Since joining the School, the Department of Physiotherapy has reflected Monash University’s goal of international engagement and internationalisation of the curriculum and enrolled an increasing number of international students at the undergraduate and postgraduate level.
