Step 1: Check your eligibility
Before applying for a research degree in the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences (MNHS), you must check your eligibility for the proposed course on the Monash Graduate Education website.
Step 2: Find a supervisor and Complete an Expression of Interest
Investigate your many research options in the Faculty of MNHS to identify a potential supervisor and research project. Review the research the Faculty offers within our schools, departments and institutes and contact academics for advice about research projects and and supervision. The Monash Researcher profiles website is also a good place to start looking for a supervisor. Our faculty does not have a deadline for obtaining the agreement from a supervisor. A separate Invitation to Apply is not needed as long as your prospective supervisor has signed your EoI or provided an email invitation. Your Expression of Interest form should be used as the Invitation to Apply when requested on the on-line application form.
Research degree applicants must identify an area of research and receive in principle support from a supervisor that they are willing to supervise the project. Doctor of Psychology applicants do not need to find a supervisor or list a project proposal prior to submitting an application. Please read the application information that the School of Psychological Sciences provides.
You will need evidence of your contact with a prospective supervisor which is necessary for your online application. You can ask your proposed supervisor to sign our completed expression of interest form or alternatively you can upload copies of your email correspondence which demonstrates in principle support.
The Faculty does not have a deadline for obtaining in principle support from a supervisor, however if you are applying for a scholarship you should allow plenty of time to have that discussion with the potential supervisor and gain their support.
Step 3: Apply for a course and scholarship
You may apply for admission if your proposed supervisor gives you in principle support to supervise your research project. You apply for research degrees and scholarship online using the same application form for both.
You will need to register first and will then be required to upload your expression of interest form or email evidence of in principle support from your proposed supervisor. Please note that gaining support from a supervisor or having a signed expression of interest form is not a guarantee of an offer of candidature or scholarship.
As part of the application process you will also be required to upload your research proposal, academic transcripts, your CV, evidence of research publications, references and any other information relevant to your proposed candidature which will be carefully assessed to determine eligibility.
