Dr Simon CooperPhD, MEd, BA, RN, FHEAAssociate Professor
I am a registered nurse with a management degree, masters in education and PhD in resuscitation leadership. I started my career working in critical care departments across the south of England, before becoming a resuscitation officer, managing, researching and training emergency teams. I then moved to an ambulance service as Head of Education whilst teaching part time on a Masters in Education programme at a medical school. In 2003 I moved full time to higher education as a principal lecturer (University of Plymouth UK) with responsibility for a Masters degree in Advanced Healthcare Practice (nurse practitioner registration). Since 2008 I have been an associate professor at Monash University (Australia) where I am currently a Campus Head at the School of Nursing and Midwifery. My research interests focus upon the first hour of acute care, leadership, teamwork and education. This includes resuscitation survival prediction models, emergency care practitioner studies, inter-professional education, team and leadership performance, simulation and patient deterioration studies. Recent research grants (n=18) since 2003 total $1000,000 with over 60 publications of papers, books, chapters and reports. I have held educational senior management positions since 1992, managing a hospital training and research department and an ambulance service school of education. In the university sector I have held postgraduate lead roles, and have been a research director, and a campus head (current). Supervision interests: I would be interested in working with research students in any of the following areas with a qualitative, quantitative or mixed methods approach:
