New courses at Clayton

The Monash School of Nursing and Midwifery established its presence at the Clayton campus last semester with the introduction of two new postgraduate programs: the Master of Nursing Practice and Master of Clinical Midwifery.

The Master of Nursing Practice is an intensive 18-month program for graduates from non-nursing degrees.  Graduates are eligible to register with the Nurses Board of Victoria as a Division 1 Nurse.

The course has enjoyed early success and, interestingly, has attracted a significant portion of male applicants.  About 50 per cent of students in the first intake are male. They include graduates from IT, architecture and engineering.

The Master of Clinical Midwifery, offered to registered nurses, allows students to qualify as a midwife and gain a masters degree at the same time. Unlike many other midwifery programs, it allows students the opportunity to undertake a 12-month research project as well as their core subjects.

The school also offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses at Monash’s Gippsland and Peninsula campuses.
