I joined Gippsland Medical School (GMS) in October, 2007 and have responsibility for the research strategy as it relates to medical education. As a relatively small school we have the opportunity to implement and evaluate innovative educational methods which would be much more challenging with a large cohort. The educational ethos of GMS will reflect the University's motto - "Ancora imparo" which means "I am still learning." We will seek innovative and creative ways to support student learning. This will only be achieved by working closely with students and faculty. On campus we have excellent facilities to support many facets of the MBBS while in the Gippsland region there are unique resources that we believe will contribute to the provision of an exemplary  medical programme.

Most recently I worked at Imperial College London where I was responsible for the clinical communication programme in the MBBS. My research interests are the contextualisation of learning, particularly the use of simulation to support the development and maintenance of clinical skills (e.g. patient assessment, procedural and surgical skills). Additionally, I have been involved in the creation of a new professional role for the National Health Service in the United Kingdom (peri-operative specialist practitioner) and the support of international medical graduates.
