International Medical Graduates Clinical Bridging Course

Associate Professor Neil Spike, Head of the Department of General Practice and the Director of Education, School of Primary Health Care Monash University will be running a 6 week course held each Tuesday from 9.30am to 5.00pm to assist candidates preparing for Clinical Examinations.

A/Professor Spike is a Senior Examiner with the Australian Medical Council, and has a background in both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and assessment. He will be assisted by Dr George Zaharias, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of General Practice, together with other Monash academic staff, many of whom are also AMC examiners. Simulated patients will be involved in the course and provide valuable insight into aspects of illness and health in the Australian context.

The course will prepare candidates for the AMC clinical examination and will cover the required areas of Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics and Psychiatry. There is a focus on the knowledge and skills required for safe and effective practice in the Australian Health Care system. The course will assist candidates in the development of a strategic approach to the clinical examinations. All participants will have the opportunity to participate in role-play scenarios and be reviewed by the course convenor.
