Hon. John Brumby, MP - Text

A message from the Hon. John Brumby, MP, Premier of Victoria on the World Health Summit.

Hon. John Brumby, MP: "Well it is my pleasure to welcome you to the Monash University session of the Innaugural World Health Summit.

Australians are generally fortunate to generally good health and good access to quality health care. But like so many parts of the world we face some big challenges, such as caring for an aging population and, of course, the rise of the chronic lifestyle diseases such as diabetes. This is why events such as this one are so important. We need the new ideas, we need the innovation and you are the people who will help to provide them.

I'm delighted that Monash University is playing such a prominent role here and of course is a member of the M8 alliance along with seven (7) of the most eminent institutions of their kind in the world.

Can I also extend a very special welcome to Professor David de Kretser, who is attending the summit, not only as the Governor of the State of Victoria, but also, of course, as an accomplished Biomedical Researcher in his own right.

So let me conclude by offering my best wishes to the Summit Organisers, particularly the host - Charité Universitätsmedizin hospital in Berlin and wishing all of the delegates a productive and successful conference."
