Ian is based at Monash and funded by MAS, this follows a an investment over the last few years in developing data collection and management systems. This has been a commitment to fostering and using research as the basis of clinical and operational decisions. The recent development and rollout of the Victorian Ambulance Clinical information System (VACIS) an electronic data capture system designed to generate useful data, has now developed to such an extent that we saw the need to introduce this role, to ensure the real benefits are obtained.

A focus of Ian's role will be to encourage research that has real practical value from an Ambulance Service and Health system perspective. Ian will work collaboratively with colleagues at MAS and Monash University and other healthcare institutions to develop a strong
transitional research and development program; advance and support research activities such that the research outcomes lead to improvements to the operational and clinical services to the community; and actively promote knowledge of advances in Ambulance and pre-hospital practice across Australia and

Ian's ambulance career began with the then Ambulance Service Melbourne in 1976 and he became a MICA Paramedic in 1979. He has had varied responsibilities in operational management including, Group Manager, General Manager Clinical & Non-Emergency Operations, and for the past 3 years he has been the General Manager Emergency Operations which includes Air Ambulance Victoria.
