Sexual Harassment

All sexual conduct whether verbal, physical or delivered electronically may constitute sexual harassment if it is UNWELCOME and could reasonably be expected to make someone else feel offended, humiliated or intimidated.

Sexual harassment can occur between:

  • Peers: student to student or staff to staff
  • Staff member (including honorary staff member) to student or supervisor to employee
  • Student to staff member or employee to supervisor
  • To or from someone who is not an employee of the university, for example in the course of a practicum or clinical placement, or in the course of any other interaction with the community as part of your course requirements

It is important that you know what to do if you witness or experience sexual harassment, or if you are unsure whether your own behaviour could be seen as offending in this area. Advice is available on the following website:

Monash University has trained advisers on all its campuses who are available to discuss these matters in the strictest confidence. A list of these advisers can be found on the following website:

The Faculty has endorsed the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing & Health Sciences Equity Plan, developed by the Faculty’s Equity and Diversity Committee, to ensure that all Faculty students and staff receive fair and equitable treatment, including freedom from any form of sexual harassment, vilification or discrimination.
