Equity and Diversity Committee

In November 2001, Faculty Board approved a proposal to form a Faculty Equity and Access Committee to replace the existing Faculty Affirmative Action Committee. The new committee was launched in May 2002, and since that time it has taken on the tasks formerly carried out by the Affirmative Action Committee and taken on additional areas of responsibility as indicated in its Terms of Reference. In 2005, the name of the committee was changed to the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing & Health Sciences Equity and Diversity Committee, to bring its name into alignment with new names adopted by the central equity committees of the University.

The membership of the committee includes representatives of all the Schools of the Faculty, and includes academic, general and research only staff. Both undergraduate and postgraduate students are represented on the committee. The Chair of the Committee is Associate Professor Margot Story, whose role is recognised by her ex officio membership of Faculty Executive.

The committee meets three times per year, and it provides two-way communication between staff and students of the Faculty, the Dean, Faculty Executive, Faculty Board, and with the Monash University Inclusive Practices Committees and the Equal Opportunity Committee of Council
