Disaster Nursing in Oceania: Key Issues and Challenges (Workshop)

About our Forum

The Department of Community Emergency Health & Paramedic Practice offers specialist information on Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Health. This seminar may contribute to filling a gap in your CPD.

Objectives

By the conclusion of this workshop, the participants will be able to:

1.     Identify the top three issues/challenges for disaster nursing (preparedness, planning, response, recovery) in the Oceania region.

2.     Develop potential solutions to some of the identified barriers to disaster nursing.

3.     Identify strategies by which the WADEM can assist in addressing the most common issues/challenges.

Keynote lecture: Ms Elaine Daily - The Language of Disasters - Let's Talk (Alike)! and Where are the Competencies

Objectives:

- Distinguish between hazard, event, damage and disaster
- Define absorbing capacity and buffering capacity
- Describe the issues related to competency development for disaster nursing

At least 5 working days notice is needed if you are unable to attend the Forum event. Cancellations made less than 5 days prior to the seminar start date will be eligible for a 50% refund on the seminar fee. An alternative colleague may be substituted, if the need arises.
