Dean accepts Top Job in UK

Professor Ed Byrne

Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, Professor Ed Byrne has resigned from his position at Monash University to take up the roles of Executive Dean of the University College London's Faculty of Biomedical Sciences and Head of the Medical School in early 2007.

The Vivian Bullwinkel Memorial Fund Gala Dinner on 18 August 2006 at the Melbourne Museum was a great success.  The Governor of Victoria, General Cosgrove, Lt-Col Georgeina Whelan, Ita Buttrose, industry partners, the RSL, the nursing fraternity, business leaders, Monash staff, alumni and friends turned out to support research into palliative care nursing.  Read more and view a snapshot of the night online.

DVD helps deal with breast cancer diagnosis

Monash University has produced Australia's first comprehensive DVD guide to help women and their families deal with breast cancer diagnosis. The DVD, initiated by the Women's Health Program at Monash, also helps women navigate their way through what is often a difficult decision-making period.

New President of the Endocrine Society

Monash endocrinologist Professor Leon Bach has been elected President of the Endocrine Society of Australia.

Advances in Anatomy

Anatomy teaching worldwide has been in transition since 1970 with the move away from lengthy dissection programs to more focussed programs.  The School of Anatomy at Monash has sought to retain the elements of dissection whilst adopting the best features of contemporary programs

Workshop assists Sri Lankan Disaster Relief Workers

Forty-five forensic practitioners and trainees from across Sri Lanka attended a three-day workshop in Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) in Galle in July run by Monash University's Department of Forensic Medicine.

Dean's Public Lecture: Low Back Pain October 10

Head of Physiotherapy, Professor Jenny Keating will discuss how non-specific low back pain affects a large number of Australians and results in considerable personal and social cost. Some advocate a "one size fits all" treatment approach, while others believe individually tailored treatment is the answer. Professor Keating examines the validity of these contrasting approaches to care for non-specific low back pain and presents arguments of interest to care providers and consumers.

Celebrity Garage Sale

The Celebrity Garage Sale raises funds for the Australian Childhood Foundation, partner in Monash's National Research Centre for the Prevention of Child Abuse 8 October 2006 at National Storage, 2 Salmon Street, Port Melbourne.
